Over the next few weeks I’ll be taking the I’m Learning Mandarin podcast in a slightly different direction from previously.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been interviewing lots of fascinating guests providing great solutions to commonly faced Mandarin learning problems. Guests like Jared Turner of Mandarin Companion graded readers or Ash Henson of Outlier Linguistics.
Over the next few weeks, however, I’m going to be showcasing stories from within the I’m Learning Mandarin community. Stories from my own students who I’ve been coaching over the past year and who’ve achieved inspirational progress.
This will take the form of interviews - both in Mandarin and English - as well as my own reflections on what I’ve learned through my experiences of coaching.
In today’s episode, I reflect on four attitude shifts that I’ve noticed help learners progress more swiftly. I draw on stories from specific cases to explain how these changes in perspective can have a positive impact on your learning.
They include:
- Setting clear and specific goals.
- Believing you’re capable of learning to speak Mandarin well.
- Being relentless and persistent with learning from corrections.
- Letting go of ego.
